At a time when we have the opportunity to decide whether and which organization to support with our 2% or 3% of the personal income tax paid for 2024, we bring you information about the U. S. Steel Košice Foundation. While last time we focused on supporting health care facilities, today we will focus on supporting culture. Gifted entities are places that many of us visit regularly.
"During 2024, the U. S. Steel Košice Foundation supported projects for the preservation of cultural values in the total amount of EUR 113,000. A financial donation of EUR 50,000 was used by the Roman Catholic Parish of St. Elizabeth of Hungary in Košice for the restoration of St. Elizabeth's Cathedral. The work included the repair of the roof and attic, the restoration of locksmith structures, the repair of external cracks in the lead gutter around the entire perimeter of the cathedral, the replacement of the steel rope for the main chandelier and the hanging Immaculata," says Slávka Tvrdoňová, administrator of the U. S. Steel Košice Foundation.
In 2024, the financial donation also helped the East Slovak Gallery in Košice to print the publication International Sculpture Symposia in Metal 1967–1974, which we have already written about. The same applies to the East Slovak Museum in Košice for the provision of exhibition and exhibition activities with a focus on the provenance of eastern Slovakia.
The Košice Folklore Studio was helped by a financial donation in providing a festive premiere program on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the folklore ensemble Železiar. Thanks to the support of the foundation, we were able to admire the costumes in the performance ŇIT TAKHO PREKRÁSNOHO, which were inspired by designs from Poruba pod Vihorlatom.
"The Foundation also supported the Košice Puppet Theatre, specifically the VIRVAR 2024 festival, which took place in the summer. The Košice String Orchestra Musica Iuvenalis used the financial donation to purchase tablets that serve as digital music stands during the orchestra's rehearsals and performances. Thanks to the support of the foundation, the Košice Children's Railway was able to ensure the renewal, maintenance and renovation of historic rolling stock."
