On Friday 8, on November 1, we placed two vertical structures in the small lake and adjacent greenery in the U. S. Steel Kosice Entrance Area, which carry recording devices. There are also camera traps oriented to the shore part of the small lake. They will monitor the habitat for a long time and draw attention to animal species that could otherwise escape attention during occasional inspections of the small lake and its surroundings. In winter, not much traffic near the surface is expected, but we want to be ready for the arrival of the new season so that when nature wakes up in the spring of 2025, everything is already on alert.
Until then, we will be fine-tuning the correct level of trigger sensitivity setting. Taking pictures near water has its pitfalls. Automatic activation often reacts to the movement of water, reflections of light from the surface, movement of plant leaves in the wind and many other stimuli that we do not need to monitor.
The sensors located on the structure are also the most important. With their help, we get a continuous record of the development of temperature and humidity at hourly intervals. Measurement can take place without interruption for almost 5 years. The recording will occasionally be downloaded using the infrared sensor at the device's contact point, without the need to disassemble it.
The data on air temperature and relative air humidity at a height of 200 cm above the surface of the pond will be recorded, the same data will be determined 200 cm above the surface of the soil (lawn) in the adjacent greenery. At the same time, the water temperature in the pond is measured at a depth of 35 cm.
The same set of measuring devices is also located in the Kosice North District, thanks to which the monitoring of water in the Kosice Mlynský náhon (Kosice mill-race) and the temperature in its surroundings will take place.
It will be very interesting to present the impact of water features and a permanently moistened habitat on the surrounding environment on exactly recorded data. We will be able to compare the results obtained at the U. S. Steel Kosice Entrance Area with the findings in the urban environment.
