The old-new location that we will help on Saturday, May 24th during Volunteer Days is the Forrest Gump Club. It won't be the first time, we have helped them several times in the past, most recently in 2019.
The non-profit organization Forrest Gump Club has been operating a day care center for the disabled for 11 years. The facility has a capacity of 20 people. Others are also applying and some are also applying for a weekly stay, but their interest cannot be satisfied due to capacity reasons. Therefore, the club decided to renovate the rented building of the former school farm building, which is in very poor condition.
Co-founder of the Forrest Gump Club, Lucia Tažiková, outlined the current plans:
“Our goal is to renovate these spaces and create a social services facility with a weekly stay for nine clients with disabilities. There will be four rooms for clients, each with a bathroom and toilet, a dining room connected to the living room, a food pantry and an office. We expect the reconstruction to take approximately a year. Since we are a non-profit organization, we will partially carry out the reconstruction ourselves. We will need many skilled and willing hands, your help means a lot to us. Together we will help the weakest - young people with disabilities.”
Our trade union members registered in advance for Saturday’s brigade. The coordinator for this location is the head of the trade union organization, Juraj Varga.
The work will be specified depending on the stage of construction at the time of the brigade. The expected activities include auxiliary construction work in the interior such as painting or laying the floor, treatment and painting of the external fence, painting the roof in front of the entrance, external modifications to the building surroundings in front of the side entrances.
The name of the club bears the name of the film hero. The reason is the strong message of the film, which has become the motto of this non-profit organization: “Even people with disabilities can be useful to society and can live a full life.”
We are happy that after years we can help them on this journey again.
