Using women’s potential means long-term economic benefit

On 24 November 2020, symbolically 20 years since the establishment of U. S. Steel Košice, the AGM of the Women’s Network was held, this time in online mode. At the very outset, U. S. Steel Košice Vice President Elena Petrášková drew attention to the various transformation processes currently being implemented at U. S. Steel Košice, and declared that the Women’s Network members were ready to accommodate to all the changes. USSK President Jim Bruno also took part, emphasizing the progress the Company is making in terms of diversity.

"Steelmaking is predominantly a male world due to the very nature of the work, but after twenty years we have two women involved in top management here. It’s very important for success in business to have good leaders, including women." He sees the Women’s Network creating space for several challenges: how to help management improve working productivity, how to generate more interest in steelmaking among the young generation of engineers, and how to be an even better partner for the local community. “I know a lot of women have two jobs in effect, at work and then at home. I will be glad to work together with the Women’s Network on improving the work environment for women, so that they can support the Slovakian economy with their knowledge and their skills." Vice President Elena Petrášková likes to say that “women are successful thanks to working together with men, not in spite of it." She went on to thank the men at USSK for respecting the women in the Company and helping them to grow.
