Steelmakers’s Drop of Blood

They say that blood is not water. This irreplaceable, precious fluid is vital for many people. Donating blood is therefore one of the noblest acts a person can do. With the Steelmakers’s Drop of Blood event, we try to contribute to ensuring that there is enough of it for everyone who needs it.

On Friday, May 23rd, we will be happy to welcome regular and irregular blood donors, or first-time donors, to the Hematology and Transfusion Department of the AGEL Košice - Šaca Hospital, at the U. S. Steel Entrance Area Polyclinic. Collections will take place from 6:00 a.m. until noon.

Before blood donation, follow the following recommendations:

  • Drink at least 2 liters of fluids 24 hours before donation: water, mineral water, teas, fruit juices. Drink half a liter of fluids two hours before collection.
  • Do not go to the blood donation on an empty stomach. Do not eat fatty foods (cheese, butter, cream, cold cuts...) for 12 hours before the test. Carbohydrate foods are suitable: fruit, vegetables, crackers, low-fat pastries, jam, honey.
  • Make sure you are rested, fresh, and have had a good night's sleep
  • 24 hours before the blood donation, do not expose yourself to excessive mental and physical exertion, skip training and visiting the gym
  • Do not smoke at least 6 hours before the donation
  • Do not drink alcohol at least 12 hours before the donation

Take good care of yourself after the blood donation:

  • Increase your fluid intake for the next 48 hours
  • Avoid increased physical exertion 5 hours after the donation
  • Eat a balanced diet 24 hours after the donation
  • Limit the consumption of alcoholic beverages and smoking cigarettes
  • Relax more
  • Exercise caution when driving a motor vehicle

Blood donors will traditionally be rewarded with refreshments in the form of a baguette and mineral water, as well as a T-shirt. This time in the color of life - red.

Registration will start in mid-April.
