"Filka" began in the rhythm of waltzes and polka

Beautiful music, elegant waltzes, polkas... this was also the case with yesterday's New Year's Concert of the State Philharmonic Košice, conducted by Rastislav Štúr. The audience in the completely sold-out hall of the House of Arts applauded the Philharmonic, soprano Eva Hornyaková and the Bratislava Boys' Choir.

They were also drawn into the world of elegance and beautiful music by such "pieces" as Ave Maria, Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, Tritsch-Tratsch polka, or Johanna Strauss's waltz ml.Na the beautiful blue Danube.

The artists were also applauded by many steelworkers in the auditorium, the concert was also attended by the Acting President of USSK Mike Piekut and Vice President Miroslav Kiraľvarga with their wives. "It was a very nice concert, we enjoyed it. The conductor literally lived with the audience. And the end of the concert was also very nice with the conductor's New Year's wishes and then Radetzky's march with the audience clapping to the rhythm," Miroslav Kiraľvarga evaluated his impressions.

What other interesting concerts can we look forward to in the second half of the season? We select only some of them.

In a week's time, on 16 January, it will be WILLIAM TELL AND THE LEGENDS OF THE RHINE (conductor Radek Baborák will swap the baton for French horn and orchestra in E flat major in Mozart's Concerto for French Horn and Orchestra in E flat major and will be in the dual role of conductor and soloist at the same time.)

Laymen who would like to make friends with classical music can mark the date February 27 and  the concert called BEETHOVEN'S PIANO in their calendar. A piano is a musical instrument that wins the favor of the audience almost immediately.

An exceptional concert entitled BEETHOVEN AND GERSHWIN: FROM VIENNA TO NEW YORK, which was also supported by U. S. Steel Košice, will take place on March 20, 2025. The guest conductor will be the world-renowned conductor John Fiore.

Traditionally, there is also a huge interest in concerts called FILM MUSIC: BEHIND FAMOUS STORIES, which will feature music from films such as Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Brave Seven, Forrest Gump and Titanic. The Košice Philharmonic Orchestra will take you to these and other films during three evenings in April. You can look forward to cinematography in melodies on April 23, 24 or 25.
