The Progressive Technologies Steel Production project is an important step towards the decarbonization of steel production in our production flow. As part of the project, we plan to build a new metallurgical plant on the premises of our company.
Location of the new metallurgical plant
The project consists of the installation of one electric arc furnace (EAF) and the operation of out-of-furnace steel processing. The steel production capacity of the new metallurgical plant will be at an estimated level of 1.53 – 2.10 million tons of liquid steel per year, depending on the product mix of the steel produced. This means that part of the steel production will be produced in the classic way, blast furnaces – the steel plant and part through EAF.
Technological flow of production
By modernizing the steel production process, we eliminate a significant part of the negative impacts on the creation of the carbon footprint and ensure the sustainability of production in the future.
The implementation of the change in steel production will not increase the total production capacity. The construction of new metallurgical production technologies will be at the expense of reducing the production of existing carbon-intensive equipment. The current production capacity of steel and hot-rolled materials will be maintained, which will remain at the level of 4,500,000 tons per year.
Technological flow of steel production in the EAF
The crude steel will be produced in a single EAF No. 1 electric arc furnace with subsequent parametric treatment in the TLF No. 1 double ladle furnace, the LF No. 2 ladle furnace and the TRH double RH (Ruhrstahl-Heraeus) vacuum degassing station. EAF No. 1 with associated parts of the plant will be located closer to the existing steel production plant Steelworks No. 1 (see figure of the location of the new metallurgical plant) due to the direct connection to the existing steel casting production flow on the existing continuous steel casting equipment for slabs CC No. 1 and CC No. 2. In this way, steel production in the conventional way in existing converters and blast furnaces will be partially replaced.
