Every creative person gets to their hobby differently, anything can be a trigger or inspiration. For Iveta Filipovská , the initial impulse was the empty walls of the family house, to which she and her husband moved in 2012. Four years ago, the time came to change that: "I discovered beautiful paintings created using the geode art technique from resin on the Internet, which immediately caught my attention. I knew that I would like to have exactly such paintings at home."

So she started looking for information about materials, aids and work procedures, took an online course...  A great encouragement for her was the first painting, which the lecturer praised her very much and which has remained close to her heart to this day.

Iveta Filipovská created without telling anyone else about her hobby, except for members of her closest family, to whom she gave her paintings or clocks.  Only after a year did she mention it to her colleague Maťka, who was very interested. She was moving and wanted various other, smaller decorative items for her new house. So she asked her to make them: "It was a completely different technique that I had to study, order silicone molds, a different type of resin and special paints. And that's how dessert racks, saucers, bookmarks, hair ornaments, key rings, soap containers, jewelry boxes, Christmas or Easter decorations, from which I have entire collections, were born. Only the Christmas tree must be larger and more massive, of course . About two years ago, a colleague told me that she sees great progress in my work and that each of my products is becoming more and more beautiful and perfect."

Wedding gift to Australia

Another colleague, Marika, recently ordered tissue boxes from her. She wanted five of them – for herself and for her children: "She liked them very much, and each box was different. For my colleague Peter, I made a tray with saucers with a sea motif. It was his wedding gift to the newlyweds in Australia. So my products are already far abroad ."

The resin it uses is certified for food contact after it has fully cured, so it can also be used to make trays and stands for desserts.

How is a resin product actually made?

Iveta Filipovská explains: "First, I have to think about the shape of the product, the color combination and the overall appearance. Then prepare the substrate or silicone mold and the materials I want to use. Resin consists of two components that must be mixed in exact proportions. Then I divide it into containers, add pigments and other decorative materials. Then I gradually pour the resin into the mold or on the prepared base, creating the desired pattern. Precision is required in the work, since the wrong ratio of components can cause the resin not to cure properly.

Appropriate ambient temperature and protection of the product from dust during curing are also important. Curing takes from 5 to 72 hours, depending on the type of resin used. After hardening, I remove the product from the mold, sand the edges, or apply another layer and do finishing work.  When I make a clock, I have to install a clock mechanism. I install metal components for the stands and trays. Each piece is an original, it will never be possible to produce two products that are exactly the same.  With decorative items that are poured into silicone molds, I only see the finished product when I take it out of the mold."

Her husband worked with resin for several years

Resin was not a completely unknown material for her. Her husband devoted himself to the production of orgonite of various shapes, especially pyramids, for several years. Jozef Filipovský sold his products to various European countries and also received an offer for cooperation from Japan. He stopped pursuing this hobby six years ago. He works as a chief process engineer at DZ Enrichment and Packaging Branch and we have already written about him on X App, among other things, about how he uses new technologies and AI in fishing.

Colors also influenced the choice of profession

Iveta Filipovská's greatest love is colors, mixing them, creating color compositions. It was  the colors that were also behind her choice of profession: "I was on an excursion to a laboratory, and when I saw the laboratory technicians and the beautiful color combinations that were created during the titrations, the decision was made. I graduated from a chemical technical school and worked as a laboratory technician for 17 years, in the meantime I graduated from university. I'm still in the laboratory, I've been working here for 34 years, now as a quality management technician, in a different department, not in chemistry, in DZ Studená valcovňa."

He finds inspiration in nature

He finds inspiration for his work mainly in nature, in the colors of minerals, stones, the sea or the sky. She also gets a lot of stimuli on the Internet, when watching the work of artists from different countries. However, he does not copy their work. For example, she can be interested in a color combination, shape or technique and then create her own design. Sometimes she is also inspired by the material itself, an interesting dried flower or mineral that she wants to incorporate into her product.

There are still many techniques in creating from resin that Iveta wants to perfect or try. New materials, pigments, forms and possibilities of combining them are constantly emerging.

He wants to continue to devote himself to paintings, clocks and larger decorations, because in a larger area he has more space and opportunities to work with colors, structures and various decorative elements. At the same time, it also wants to try the production of new utility or decorative products.

When asked if she would like to devote herself to this job full-time, she replied:

"I would like my work to gradually develop, but still to remain a source of joy and relaxation for me. I have my own job and I mainly use my free time to create, which is not always much. With custom production, deadlines and obligations arise. I wouldn't want an activity where I relax to become just another work obligation. However, I am happy when people like my products and when someone chooses my product for themselves or as a gift."
