Robert Seregely has had the same locker in his dressing room for 42 years

"Metallurgy requires a tough nature and determination. It is these qualities that Robert Seregely has, who has dedicated his professional career to the only divisional plant in which he has been working for 42 years. As an electromechanic in a heavy winding room, he developed into a top expert. His expertise in the field of electric motors of the highest performance is crucial for the reliable production of flat-rolled products," says Rastislav Kocan, head of the Workshop Repair of Electrical Equipment operation at DP Maintenance (DZ Udrzba), about his colleague.

From Friday, September 11, Robert Seregely can proudly pin the highest departmental award For Work Loyalty to his metallurgical uniform.

He has been working in the Kosice ironworks since 1984, for the last 20 years as an electromechanic – foreman: "My job is repairing and rewinding electric motors, mainly for hot and cold rolling mills. I am responsible for the quality of the work done and meeting deadlines. The job is interesting, but also demanding, especially the handling of heavy loads. We repair engines that weigh up to 50 tons. I've been at my workplace since I joined the ironworks, I'm basically there as an inventory. I even have the same locker in the dressing room all the time."

He met his wife at work

He also found a life partner at his workplace: "We met, fell in love, got married and are still happily together. My wife doesn't work with me anymore. Unfortunately, after 30 years of work, she had to retire on disability."

She was very pleased with the award he was given. She considers it an honor: "Me too. When the head of the operation told me in the spring that he was proposing me for this award, I was in tears. My colleagues also wished me this award."

According to Rastislav Kocan, Robert Seregely is known as a specialist in new challenges and innovations. In the past, he also successfully represented the operation on demanding external repairs, such as turbine repairs on the river Váh cascades, at hydroelectric power plants in Ilava and Trenčín.

He is raising a good successor

He devotes his knowledge and time to teaching young colleagues: "I have one very smart one, he is 22 years old, but he has already "skipped" even those who have been working there for 30 years. Today's young people, especially those who come from Košice, from the block, are more interested in their mobile phones. This boy, his name is  Miloš Pustai, he is from Valalik, he has motorcycles, he likes to work around the house. He is very hardworking. He asks about everything, he wants to try everything himself. He strives to learn everything necessary.  I still have two and a half years left until retirement. I will definitely continue to devote myself to it, so that when I leave, I can tell the head of operations that the young "partner" is perfectly prepared."

Master in carp cleaning

In private, he can find the perfect balance with a noisy factory. He divides all his free time between his beloved family, working in the garage and his great hobby – fishing, where he draws new energy by the water – if time and duties allow it. Rastislav Kočan also revealed this about Róbert.

"Yes, I'm a fisherman, I like to catch carp fish. My fishing grounds are in the vicinity of Moldova – Janík and Nižný Lanec. Now I don't have that much time for fishing, I was only there twice last year. Basically, I am a sponsor of the fishing association, because I also bought fish for Christmas. I like fish, my children have also eaten it since they were little. I can bone the carp so that not a single bone remains in the meat.  And my two grandsons also like fish. They live abroad, so I don't see them as often as I'd like. But when they come, then I pay attention mainly to them," says Róbert Seregély.

A typical "handyman"

Currently, most of his time is spent working around the house. He is a typical "handyman". He can do everything himself and when necessary, he can also help his neighbors. He lives in a small mining settlement at the "end of the world" in Lucia Baňa, where there is not even a signal. They inherited a house there, which is being reconstructed and remodeled from the ground up: interior, fences, yard, cellars, gazebo, and work on a new façade is still ahead.

He does not like monotonous and boring work, stereotype. Quite the opposite. That is why his profession suits him, but also why he probably also found himself in the reconstruction and renovation of the house and garden:   "There is always something going on, there is always something new that needs to be solved, new challenges. And that's the most interesting and beautiful thing about my job."
