Marián Forrai takes care of the operation of cooling, lubrication and hydraulic equipment necessary for continuos casting. He works as an operation and maintenance coordinator and ensures the coordination of activities between production and maintenance in DP Steel Shops (DZ Oceliaren). Together with his colleagues, he looks for the causes of failures, solves problems that arise and tries to prevent them as much as possible.
"I find practically everything interesting in my work, because every problem that arises is different and brings new challenges that I have to overcome in time. My days are not stereotypical, I never know exactly what the day will look like, and that's what makes my job interesting for me."
He learned a lot from the people with whom he had the opportunity to work and who moved him further in his career: "My first master Ladislav Rybarsky taught me the most about this operation. It was after him that I later took over the position of champion. I had several managers and colleagues, each of them enriched me in their own way and inspired me on my path as a metallurgist."
Today, Marian Forrai passes the imaginary baton on and it is he who teaches, inspires and enriches others.
Not just a broom and a shovel
Do young people want to work in heavy industry today?
"Compared to other years, it has improved, or I was lucky to have better students. Out of ten, there are still one or two who don't enjoy it so much. The others are mostly pupils whose family members work in this company and are role models for them. I also try to motivate them by giving them more interesting jobs. They don't have to worry that they will only get a broom and a shovel . I don't want to disgust them. Young people especially enjoy new technologies and large computer-controlled devices. I have been working with students for more than ten years, some former students already work for us, even in our operation. They are always happy to stop by when they want advice or just like that," says Marian Forrai.
It is his willingness to devote himself to passing on experience to young people in addition to his work that is also appreciated by his colleagues and superiors. The director of DP Róbert Tóth says about him: "Marián Forrai significantly contributes to the preservation of expertise and the good name of the metallurgical craft."
The family is happy about the photos in uniform
On 11 September, Marián Forrai received the highest departmental award For Work Loyalty. He says that he is very lucky because he works in a great team: "My colleagues give me this award. At the same time, however, I humbly add that I do not see it only as an appreciation of my work, but of the entire team with which I work."
We wondered if there would be successors and future metallurgists in his family: "My two brothers and brother-in-law also work in the ironworks, each in a different position. However, my children went their own way. My son studied at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and works as a manager in automotive production, my daughter studied at the Faculty of Economics and works in the economic field."
The family is proud of Marián. They are happy about the award he was given, but also about the photos in a metallurgical uniform. All of them, including their two grandchildren, whom he and his wife devote themselves to mainly on weekends.
Coffee, cookies and sudoku
"Since work often means relaxation for me, I am glad that the children involve me in their projects at home and in the garden, where I can also relax and usefully fill my free time," he says.
In the past, he was involved in running, hockey and in-line skating. Now his hobby is cycling and a leisurely weekend pace. He also won one bike in our competition, which we organized on X App. However, he did not enjoy it very much, because it immediately caught the eye of my daughter .
"When the weather is bad, I like to treat myself to coffee with cookies baked by my wife and daughter and exercise my brain and combination skills in sudoku," said Marián Forrai.
