The main task of Erich Hegedus, OMC coordinator in the operation of the engine room in Power Engineering Plant (DZ Energetika), is to coordinate operational activities, monitor technological processes and ensure the smooth and safe operation of equipment. He is responsible for communication between individual workplaces, solving operational situations and supporting the efficient functioning of production processes.
"In my job, the most difficult thing is to make the right decisions, even in time-consuming or non-standard situations, when it is necessary to react quickly while maintaining the safety and reliability of operation. The most interesting thing is the variety of work – every day brings new challenges and opportunities to learn something new," he says.
He has been attracted to technology and energy since the beginning of his professional career. He always wanted to work in an area where he could take responsibility and at the same time be part of the team that ensures the operation of important technological processes.
There were good, but also more difficult periods, during which the question arose whether it would not be easier to do something else. However, a sense of responsibility, a good team and the awareness that his work is meaningful always prevailed.
Situations that are not forgotten
"Over the years in the company, I have experienced a number of situations that are not forgotten. Among the most valuable are the moments when we managed to successfully manage difficult operating conditions or shutdowns without serious complications. We had a big problem in 2019 when there was a power outage. We were without electricity for more than an hour. Fortunately, nothing happened to anyone, although of course there was damage. We ran the whole factory back up and running without any major problems. You don't experience something like this every day,"
he says.
Erich Hegedus was greatly inspired by experienced colleagues and managers, from whom he received not only professional knowledge, but also an approach to work, responsibility and the ability to remain calm even in difficult situations.
On Friday, September 11, Erich Hegedus was awarded the departmental award For Work Dedication: "I see it as an appreciation of the work of the whole team. I am lucky to work among people I can rely on, who support each other. I was very pleased with the reactions of my colleagues and I appreciate their recognition immensely."
The son will be a nuclear physicist
Erich Hegedus grew up in an environment where work in the Kosice ironworks, where his father also worked, was often talked about. His family understands that working in energy and around the clock sometimes requires prioritizing work responsibilities over personal plans, but he has always felt supported and understood by his loved ones. According to him, it is the family background that is an important support throughout his career. Not only his colleagues, but also his loved ones received the news of the award with great joy and pride: "I would be especially pleased if my late father lived to see this award, who would certainly be very proud of me. And I am glad that my son Patrik, who will study nuclear physics in Prague, is also choosing a technical direction," said Erich Hegedus.
It also passes on corporate culture and ethics to young people
The head of the Machine room, Erich Blanar, evaluates his colleague as follows: "Loyalty to one workplace has enabled him to educate dozens of new experts in the field of energy. He acts as a mentor who passes on not only technical knowledge to young employees, but also company culture and ethics. Erich Hegedus has experienced periods of prosperity and severe crises, transformations and restructurings with the company. His ideas saved the company money, time or increased work efficiency."
Fan of the F 1
Just as quick observation and quick decision-making are important in the work of Erich Hegedűš, speed is also most characteristic of his hobby. He is a fan of F1 motorsport and is a fan of the Ferrari team. He watches F1 events on TV, but he also took part in races at the Budapest circuit and in June at the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona. It was a gift from my wife for her life anniversary. On the trip, which he will not easily forget, he was accompanied by the whole family.
